1000 Satellites operates Satellit Malzwerk, a coworking space on the second floor of the historic Malzwerk building inside Karlsruhe's Kreativpark Alter Schlachthof, the city's converted creative quarter.

The Alter Schlachthof was, as its name suggests, once Karlsruhe's municipal slaughterhouse, a working industrial site that fell out of use through the later twentieth century before the city and a wave of independent tenants gradually turned its brick halls and yards into galleries, ateliers, event spaces and studios. Malzwerk itself, the malt house that supplied the site's former brewing operations, is one of the buildings that carried that transition furthest, and Satellit Malzwerk now occupies its second floor as a working address rather than a museum piece.

That setting shapes the day-to-day experience more than a standard business park ever could. Members share the Kreativpark with galleries, design studios and small creative businesses rather than law firms and insurers, and the walk between a desk and a coffee break passes exhibition spaces and workshops instead of a car park. It is a deliberate contrast with the corporate office districts elsewhere in Karlsruhe, and it tends to suit people who want their workday to feel connected to a wider creative scene rather than sealed off inside a single company floor.

Five video and phone boxes plus a dedicated office box give people somewhere to take a call or put in a focused hour without disturbing the open floor, which matters in a building shared with other tenants and events. One detail worth knowing before booking: Satellit Malzwerk keeps staffed opening hours of 08:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday, an hour shorter at the end of the day than most other satellites in the network. That is fine for a conventional working day but worth factoring in for anyone planning a late afternoon meeting or an evening session on site. Transport is straightforward regardless of the hour - tram and bus stops sit a few minutes' walk from the building, connecting the Kreativpark to central Karlsruhe without a car.

Membership at Satellit Malzwerk also opens the rest of the 1000 Satellites network, which is really the point of the model: 1000 Satellites was spun out of BASF's innovation unit Chemovator in 2021 on the premise that workspace should sit closer to where people actually live, rather than pulling everyone into one city-centre hub. Every workstation in the network meets the same ASR standard as the desks at Malzwerk, and network-wide access is bundled into every pass except Fix Desk - so a member based here can just as easily work from a satellite in Mannheim or Munich on a day that calls for it.
