# beyond Quartier Heidestrasse Berlin

beyond Quartier Heidestrasse occupies a six-storey mixed-use building at Heidestraße 34, on the street that gives Europacity its spine. This is the newest piece of central Berlin: a district laid out on the freight yards and sidings that sat for decades between the Berlin-Spandau shipping canal and the main station, and built out block by block over the past fifteen years. The effect is unusual for a city that mostly grew by accretion — the offices, the apartments above them, the canal-side promenade and the squares between were all drawn at the same time, so the streets are wide, the ground floors are active and the light gets in. The Hamburger Bahnhof and its contemporary-art collection anchor the southern end of the street, and the galleries clustered around the Kunstcampus are a few minutes' walk in the same direction.

The building delivers more than 700 workspaces across 4,500 square metres, which makes it one of the larger single flexible-workspace floorplates in Mitte and gives a company somewhere to grow into rather than out of. Inside, the plan runs from an open ground-floor lounge with reception and an on-site café through planted breakout areas, quiet corners, phone booths and glass-walled team rooms, with a timber stair tying the lower floors together. Ceilings are left exposed, the floors are bright, and full-height living green walls do most of the decorating. The top of the building is the part members talk about: a rooftop terrace and bar under pergola shade, with long tables and a clear view across the Berlin skyline.

What is sold here comes in two groups. Three monthly memberships cover the ways people work full time — a private office fitted out for the team that takes it and quoted per desk, a dedicated desk of your own in the shared space, and a coworking membership for the shared floor. Offices and dedicated desks carry round-the-clock access, while the coworking membership runs on daytime hours. Alongside them sit three day and hour products: a hot desk for the day, a fully equipped private office by the day, and meeting rooms and event space booked by the hour. That second group is what makes the building as usable for a visiting team as for a resident one.

Terms are flexible and pricing is all-inclusive, so the ultra-fast WiFi, the printing area, IT support, the coffee and tea, the events programme and the community team come with the membership rather than as line items. Meeting rooms are fully equipped, members' guests are welcome once a room is booked, and bookings and building access are handled through beyond's own workspace app. There are showers for anyone who cycles or runs in, an event space for launches and workshops, and beer on tap for the evenings that end on the roof.

For a company choosing between districts, the case for this one is largely about distance. Berlin Hauptbahnhof is a kilometre away, a fifteen-minute walk along the canal, which puts the long-distance rail network and a fifty-minute run to Berlin Brandenburg Airport inside a lunch break; the airport itself is thirty-one kilometres out. Mitte's government quarter and museums lie south across Invalidenstraße, Moabit is west over the water, and Chausseestraße — where beyond runs its second Berlin building — is a short ride east. It suits teams that meet clients straight off the train, international offices whose people land at BER often, and anyone who would rather scale from a single desk to a team room without changing address.
