# Cowork Up Puerta del Mar

Cowork Up Puerta del Mar occupies a restored floor of an 1898 building on Calle Cronista Carreres, in Ciutat Vella, a few steps from the Porta de la Mar, the monumental gate that gives the area its name. This is Valencia's classical core: wide avenues lined with plane trees, the Carrer de la Pau axis around the corner, the Turia gardens a couple of hundred metres away and the Mercat de Colón, the Cathedral and the Plaça de l'Ajuntament all within an easy walk. Colón metro, served by lines 3, 5, 7 and 9, is about three minutes on foot, which makes this one of the best-connected coworking addresses in the city. You enter through a carved stone façade with a porter's lodge, which sets the tone before you reach the door.

The building has been restored gently rather than gutted. Ceilings rise to five metres, the original tiled floors and period balcony doors have been kept, and daylight pours in all day through floor-to-ceiling balconies, while the fast fibre is hidden behind the plaster mouldings. Across seven hundred square metres, Cowork Up has added a wooden mezzanine reached by a broad timber staircase, a slatted wooden wall with the glowing Cowork Up sign, long white desks with comfortable chairs and plenty of plants. A private office painted with a large, vivid abstract mural shows how much character the operator has put into a space that could easily have been just elegant.

This is the larger and busier of the two houses, and it is the one built around meetings. There are five meeting rooms, each with a name. Sala Altea is bright and classical, with period balcony doors and room for four to six, ideal for pitches and interviews. Sala Denia is the largest, with five-metre ceilings, a marble floor and a long boardroom table for six to eight, made for board meetings and workshops. Sala Calpe is compact and quiet, for up to four, for one-to-ones and video calls that need a door that closes. Every room comes with a whiteboard, a screen with HDMI, fast Wi-Fi, coffee, water, air conditioning and natural light, and all of them can be booked by the hour without a membership.

The shared infrastructure matches Ruzafa. The connection is symmetrical one-gigabit fibre with a backup line, and six sound-treated phone booths behind bright yellow doors take the calls that should not happen at a desk. The kitchen is large and fully equipped, with freshly brewed specialty coffee, a long wooden table with yellow stools and a lounge area, and fresh fruit is restocked every day. Colour printing, scanning and courier pick-up are available, the front desk signs for parcels, lockers can be rented, and indoor bike racks are secure and covered. There is an event hall for talks and gatherings, and the weekly community calendar of Beer Day, Pizza Friday, happy hours and startup networking keeps the floor social.

Puerta del Mar is also the only Cowork Up location with private offices: small rooms for two to six people that are not sold on the website and run on a short waitlist, so teams should write to the operator with their size and start date. Everyone else chooses from the same flexible plans as at Ruzafa, from a half-day or full-day pass and a weekly pass to afternoons-only plans, a twenty-hour part-time pass, a full-time hot desk and a dedicated fix desk, with a weekly allowance of meeting-room time on the monthly plans. Every plan can be cancelled any month and there are no setup fees, and the virtual office can register your company at this address.

The space is open Monday to Friday from half past seven in the morning to eight in the evening. It suits founders who meet clients and investors, small teams that need meeting rooms on tap, freelancers who like a bright and lively floor, and anyone who wants to work in a historic building at the centre of Valencia, with the Turia gardens on one side and the old town on the other.
