# Coworking Boix7

Calle Boix is one of those short Ciutat Vella streets you only walk down if you meant to, and at number 7, at street level, a wooden-framed glazed double door opens straight into the unit. Coworking Boix7 occupies that whole ground floor. There is no lobby, no lift and no reception to cross: you push the door and you are already inside the workspace, with the street a metre away and the noise of the city staying outside once it closes behind you.

The interior is a Valencian ground floor that has been kept rather than gutted. Dark timber beams are exposed across the whole ceiling, the floor still carries the black-and-white hydraulic tiling that was laid in ground-floor rooms in this part of the city, and black industrial pendants hang low over the desks to put the light where it is needed. The walls are white, so what you see when you look up is the beams and the floor, which is exactly what you should be seeing in a building like this.

The space is arranged as a run of connected rooms rather than one open floor. The first, beside the glazed door, takes the light off the street and is where you sit when you want to watch people go past. The large room at the back is the main one, with desks lined against the wall and facing a tall shuttered window, and between them sits a closed room with a door for the meetings that need one. You can walk the whole place in twenty paces, and a good part of the appeal is exactly that.

Every desk arrives finished rather than half-equipped: a desk with its own drawer unit, an ergonomic mesh chair, a dedicated network port alongside the wifi, and a plant on top, which is a small gesture that says a fair amount about the house. The connection is fibre with a load balancer, set up so a video call does not drop mid-sentence. Entry is by phone through the house app, so the opening hours do not depend on somebody standing behind a counter, and there is a motion-sensor alarm and a high-definition closed-circuit camera system for the hours when nobody is in.

You can come for a single day or settle in by the month, and you can have your post and parcels delivered here. The house is taken without a lock-in and flexes with the size of the team in both directions, so a company growing from one person to six does not have to move to do it. It opens Monday to Friday, from eight in the morning until ten at night, which is a long stretch for a space this size, and anyone who needs something outside that is invited to say so.

The barrio is la Seu, the administrative and monumental heart of Valencia. The Cathedral and the Micalet bell tower stand a little over three hundred metres away; the Torres dels Serrans, the medieval gate that closes the old city to the north, about four hundred; the Plaça de la Reina the same; and the Mercat Central around seven hundred. The Turia gardens — the riverbed the city turned into a park after diverting the river — are a short walk north, and the Plaça de l'Ajuntament and the Estació del Nord are both reachable on foot at an unhurried pace.

That makes Boix7 a practical address as well as a handsome one: you can eat at the market, meet a client on the Plaça de la Reina and be back at your desk inside the same quarter of an hour. It suits freelancers, small studios and teams of up to half a dozen who want to work in the historic centre of Valencia without the historic centre becoming a logistical nuisance.
