# Mindspace Hausvogteiplatz

For most of a century, this small triangular square was where German fashion was made. Hausvogteiplatz sits on the seam between Friedrichswerder and Friedrichstadt, built over old fortifications, and from the mid-nineteenth century it was the centre of Berlin's Konfektion — the ready-to-wear clothing industry, run largely by Jewish-owned houses, that dressed the country from these buildings. The trade was destroyed after 1933 when those firms were expropriated and their owners driven out or murdered. A memorial on the square, the Denkzeichen Modezentrum Hausvogteiplatz, carries the names.

Mindspace Hausvogteiplatz occupies one of the buildings on that square, at number 12. Part of the surviving fabric here is listed, and the facade is the reason to arrive on foot: a tall stone front with deep window bays that is genuinely handsome at dusk, when the lit floors read as horizontal bands across it. Inside, the rooms are finished plainly and let the light do the work — coworking desks run along the window wall, the lounge is armchairs and a patterned rug, and the meeting rooms are furnished with framed prints and long tables. One is glazed, which is the one teams book when they want to be seen working rather than hidden.

Practically, the transport is as good as central Berlin gets without being on top of a mainline station. Hausvogteiplatz on the U2 is about a hundred metres from the door — you can see the entrance from the building. Spittelmarkt on the U2 and Stadtmitte, where the U2 meets the U6, are both around six or seven minutes on foot, and Französische Straße is a similar distance north. Gendarmenmarkt is four minutes west, the Museumsinsel and Unter den Linden are ten minutes north, and the government ministries along Wilhelmstraße are within twenty. It is quieter than Friedrichstraße and noticeably more residential in feel than the streets immediately around the Bundestag.

The building sells the full range. The event space suits a launch, a panel or a reception in central Mitte, with guests arriving at the U2 stop on the square itself. The private day office is a six-person closed room at a genuinely central Mitte address minutes from Gendarmenmarkt, for a team that needs a door that closes for the day.

Alongside those: a day pass for a seat in the open space, the network-wide All Access membership, and meeting rooms by the hour. The standard inclusions are all present — wifi, phone booths, a staffed reception, the coffee and soda bar, lounge areas, bike parking, step-free access, weekly community and professional events. Dogs are welcome. There is no roof terrace at this building.

For a longer private-office term, Mindspace quotes on request rather than publishing a monthly rate, as everywhere in their German portfolio.

It suits professional-services firms, associations, agencies working with public-sector clients, and anyone who wants a Mitte address a few minutes from Gendarmenmarkt in a building that has been part of the city's commercial life for a very long time.

A last practical note for a first visit: arrive at the U2 exit on the square rather than navigating by street number. Hausvogteiplatz is small and triangular, the buildings around it look alike at ground level, and the memorial in the middle is the landmark everyone uses to orient a guest.
