# Mindspace Rödingsmarkt

The U-Bahn stops thirty metres from the door. Rödingsmarkt is an elevated station on the U3 — the line that runs the ring around central Hamburg, over the water at Baumwall and past the Landungsbrücken — and Mindspace Rödingsmarkt sits directly beside it, in a century-old building on the edge of the Altstadt. If you have ever spent a Hamburg winter walking the last ten minutes of a commute in horizontal rain, that distance is not a detail.

From that one station the rest of the city unfolds quickly. Stadthausbrücke, on the S-Bahn, is about three minutes on foot for regional and airport services. Rathaus, and the Rathausmarkt with it, is five. Jungfernstieg and the Binnenalster are seven or eight, and Baumwall puts you at the harbour edge in the same time, with the Elbphilharmonie and the Speicherstadt warehouses immediately beyond. The Michel — St. Michael's, Hamburg's landmark church — stands a few minutes south. Very little of working Hamburg is more than a quarter of an hour from this doorway.

The building carries its age visibly and well. The coworking floor runs along an exposed brick wall, private offices sit under industrial pendant lamps, and the entrance stairwell is finished in yellow glazed tile with a bike rack at the bottom — the kind of detail that dates a building precisely and that no new-build reproduces. Glass-walled meeting rooms sit off the main floor. There is a gym in the same building, run by an operator independent of Mindspace, with member discounts available; worth knowing if a lunchtime hour at the gym is part of how you work.

A note on the building's name, because the operator's own marketing repeats it: this is not the Klöpperhaus. That building — Fritz Höger's 1912 department store — stands on Mönckebergstraße, more than a kilometre east of here. Rödingsmarkt 9 is its own address on the canal side of the Altstadt, and it does not need a borrowed name to be a good building.

Mindspace sells a broad range here. A day pass is one seat for one working day. All Access opens the whole network worldwide. A private day office holds four to six people behind a closed door, day by day, which covers a client visit, an interview round or a workshop without a lease. And the event space books by the hour — the photographs of it laid out with flowers and candles are not a stock set, that is how Hamburg companies use the room.

The included list is honest and complete: wifi, phone booths, lounge areas, a coffee and soda bar, printers and IT support, bike parking, weekly community and professional events, and access around the clock. Dogs are welcome. What this building does not have is a roof terrace — the Berlin and Munich buildings have those, and Rödingsmarkt does not, which matters if outdoor space is on your list.

It suits people whose work touches the harbour and the Altstadt — trade, logistics, media, agencies, consultancies — and anyone who values arriving dry more than arriving somewhere with a view from the twelfth floor. For a longer private-office term, Mindspace quotes on request rather than publishing a monthly rate, which is their approach across Germany. Everything else here has a price you can act on today.

One more practical point about the Altstadt end of Hamburg: it empties out in the evening. The offices, the Rathaus and the shopping streets north of here run on office hours, and the restaurants that stay open late are along the harbour at the Landungsbrücken or across the canals in the Neustadt. That makes the building quiet after six, which is a benefit if you work late and a drawback if you wanted a bar downstairs. It also means the lunchtime options are the ones the working city uses rather than tourist menus, and there are plenty of them within the block.
