# Regus Am Brandenburger Tor

In 1945, Pariser Platz was little more than rubble, and for the next four and a half decades it lay empty and inaccessible, folded into the fortified death-strip that ran along the Berlin Wall dividing the city's east from its west. The square had first been laid out in 1734 by the architect Philipp Gerlach and was later renamed to mark the Prussian army's 1814 entry into Paris — a long civic history that the Cold War border erased almost entirely for a generation of Berliners.

Reconstruction only began after reunification, under a strict 1990s masterplan led by architect Josef Paul Kleihues, who required every new building framing the square to echo the scale and rhythm of what had stood there before the war. The result is the Pariser Platz of today: the DZ Bank headquarters, the five-star Hotel Adlon, a cluster of embassies, and — flanking the Brandenburg Gate itself — buildings such as Haus Sommer and Haus Liebermann, deliberately raised within that Kleihues-era discipline rather than as free-standing statements of their own.

The Gate the square is named for was designed by Carl Gotthard Langhans and completed in 1791, modelled on the Propylaea, the ceremonial gateway to the Athenian Acropolis. Regus occupies a building at Pariser Platz 4a that belongs to this post-reunification generation of construction — one of the structures raised inside the Kleihues masterplan to complete the square's frame around the Gate, rather than a historic survivor in its own right.

Inside, the centre gives members a private-office base a few steps from one of Europe's most photographed public squares, with a business lounge area available for informal meetings or simply a change of scene between calls. Dedicated meeting rooms are on hand whenever a conversation needs a closed door and a table rather than a lounge chair, and a stocked snacks area keeps the working day moving without a trip outside the building. A private office here is priced from €585 a month, giving a team or an individual a fixed, fully serviced base right on the square itself rather than a shared desk somewhere further out in the city.

Few Berlin addresses are as easy to reach: five separate railway lines converge in the immediate area, so members arriving from other parts of the city, from the airport, or from out of town rarely need more than one change to get to the door. That connectivity matters more here than in almost any other Mitte location, since Pariser Platz itself is pedestrianised and closed to through traffic — the square rewards people who arrive on foot from a nearby station rather than by car.

The stretch of Mitte around Pariser Platz mixes government, diplomatic and hospitality functions in a way few other Berlin neighbourhoods do: the Reichstag and the wider government quarter sit a short walk to the north, embassies line the square itself and the streets just off it, and the sculptural DZ Bank building designed by Frank Gehry is essentially next door. For anyone whose work involves clients, officials or partners visiting from elsewhere, few addresses in the city state their location as plainly as this one does.

Working from Pariser Platz 4a means operating from a square that spent decades as forbidden ground and has spent the last thirty years being rebuilt, piece by piece, into one of Berlin's most tightly controlled and closely watched public spaces — a striking backdrop for a private office, a client meeting in the lounge, or simply a coffee break with a view that most visitors only get to enjoy for a few minutes at a time.
