# Spaces The Porter Building

Brunel Way takes its name from Isambard Kingdom Brunel, whose Great Western Railway brought the line to Slough, and The Porter Building stands on it at number 1, SL1 1FQ, beside the town's station. The operator describes an inspiring office a step from Slough's train and bus stations, with five floors of open-plan reception areas, office space, meeting rooms and conference suites around a green-heart atrium that fills the whole building with natural light. This is the Spaces brand in Slough, so expect a design-led approach and a community feel.

The building's selling points are practical and visible. A rooftop terrace provides a break area and can be rented, complete with a bar, to entertain in the evening. The centre lists a lounge area, bicycle facilities, showers, a terrace, parking with electric-car charging points in an underground car park and step-free access. The operator calls it an eco-conscious business centre, which fits a building that puts a living atrium at its heart and gives the people who cycle in somewhere to shower.

The position by the station is the other half of the offer. Slough has fast links to London Paddington, and the Elizabeth line now carries passengers through the capital and to Heathrow. Drivers can reach the M4 within a short journey, and the operator says the airport is a short drive away. In practice that gives an international client a choice of how to arrive, and a team a choice of how to leave: a morning flight, an afternoon train, an evening drive home.

Around the building, the Observatory Shopping Centre and Slough town centre are within walking distance for lunch or after-work drinks, and if you have more time the operator suggests a round of golf at Iver Golf Club and Academy or a visit to Windsor Castle, both a short drive away. Slough's own economy is dominated by international headquarters and the Trading Estate, and the operator says the town is nearing the end of a large-scale redevelopment, in which the Porter Building is part of the new skyline.

Who is it for? Start-ups and scale-ups that want a design-led, sociable building near Heathrow; foreign companies establishing a UK presence; sales and customer-success teams who spend their week meeting clients in London and the Thames Valley; consultants who commute by rail and prefer not to drive; and companies that want a place for an evening event with a roof terrace. A team that cycles will appreciate the showers and bike storage.

On the practical side, ask what office sizes are free today, whether the terrace can be booked for your own events and what the cost structure is, how many parking spaces with charging points are available and how a membership works for hot desks. For a registered address, ask in writing about the formalities.

If your day depends on a road and airport rather than a station, the Bath Road centre is the better fit. If you walk out of a train and into the office, The Porter Building is hard to beat.

A design-led building rewards a visit at different times of day. The atrium changes with the light, the terrace looks very different on a sunny lunchtime and on a rainy evening, and the community feel depends on how many members are in. Ask the centre how many tenants are on each floor, what events it hosts and whether there is a members' area that is quieter for focused work. If the terrace is important to you, find out how far ahead it must be reserved and what the arrangements are for catering and the bar.

CoworkingView cannot see availability. Ask which offices are free and arrange a visit to see the atrium and the terrace for yourself.
